Medicinal plants are being used worldwide for centuries their beneficial properties. Some of the most popular medicinal belong to Melissa genus, and different health effects have already been identified this genus. Among these species, in particular, officinalis L. has reported as having many biological activities, such antioxidant, antimicrobial, antitumour, antiviral, antiallergic, anti-inflammatory, also flatulence inhibiting effects. The properties officinalis, known “lemon balm herb”, can be related bioactive compounds terpenoids, alcohols, rosmarinic acid, phenolic antioxidants which present plant. In updated review, botanical, geographical, nutritional, phytochemical, traditional medical aspects M. considered well vitro vivo clinically proven therapeutic reviewed with a special focus on health-promoting possible perspective nutraceutical applications.
